Functioning in a similar way to Douyin (China’s TikTok), Kuaishou is a Chinese short-form video-sharing app that uses licensed music as the backdrop to viral challenges, lip-sync videos, and other user-created content. Kuaishou has a large user base outside of China’s Tier 1 cities and has been a highly downloaded app in eight countries, including India.
Kuaishou’s short-form video content forms the backbone of the app, with users and influencers creating videos using trending audio from Kuaishou’s licensed music catalogue and other sounds.
Kuaishou’s algorithms favour content discovery, making it easy for users to find new content to enjoy and follow. For artists, it’s a chance for new fans to discover their music and engage with user-generated content at the same time.
Offering experiences beyond short-form video, Kuaishou has expanded into offering in-app e-commerce (shopping) and live streaming, encouraging users to spend more time on the Kuaishou app and engage with creators and businesses.
